 Seriously, if you’re going to do drugs, just make sure that…

  • …you trust your dealer to give you what you asked for instead of something else (bath salts instead of molly, research chemicals like 2CI and DOI instead of acid, and so on) or something that was cut with something(s) it shouldn’t have been. I had a friend in high school die from ecstasy that was cut with a bad combination of other drugs.
  • …you look up interactions with any medicine you take and how it affects any mental or physical illness or disability you may have.
  • …you look up if there’s anything you can do to make it stronger or weaker after taking it in case you need that (orange or grapefruit juice making mushroom trips stronger, for example), how long the effects last and if that’s affected by anything else you might use in conjunction (like cocaine’s half-hour effect being extended to several hours and heightened by mixing with alcohol, which combine with enzymes in the liver to create cocaethylene), and if any preparation or temporary lifestyle changes are required (like having to cut out cheese, smoked foods, and brewer’s yeast for two weeks after ayahuasca).
  • …you read people’s experiences in case there’s something that you know you wouldn’t like for yourself enough not to try it at all.
  • …you do them in a safe environment with people you trust.

Also if you’re using psychedelics, have some anti-psychotics on hand (like seroquel) or at least some benzodiazepines (e.g. valium, xanax) cos that way if you or someone ur with has a bad trip you/they can just go to sleep and believe me that’s far preferable than gritting your teeth thru it or ending up in a psych ward (where the treatment is the same anyway).

Unpopular opinion: straight people using “partner” to refer to their SO actually helps normalize the term so that lgbt folx can use it without automatically outing themselves to strangers. It also helps other straight ppl get comfortable with the fact that strangers aren’t entitled to information about other people’s gender or sexuality.

I hear ‘partner’ and think ‘gay’ too. A girl at work used it for months and I just went with it. When she would say ‘he’ I even thought maybe he was trans*. Anyways, someone using partner makes me more comfortable and I came out to her. She was just an intelligent straight girl that liked the term and was knowledgeable in human sexuality so definitely someone I should have felt comfortable coming out too. It’s a good sign of a straight person uses it IMO.

As a mental health clinician, this is actually my blanket term when discussing any romantic relationship. I agree it normalizes it, but I also think it’s a relatively safe term to use to describe most romantic relationships without making any assumptions about the person’s orientation or identity. I also use the word “partnered” when describing a monogamous relationship status.

The term “partner” also removes the implied hierarchy of boyfriend/girlfriend vs husband/wife. This is relevant both to non-monogamous people, and unmarried individuals for whom the importance of their relationship isn’t dictated by its legal status.

To those of you who voted Tory here’s what you’ve let us in for

  • no cap on university places, meaning cramped classes of kids having to pay £9k (another of your great ideas) 
  • yep tuition fees are going to stay at £9k and not be cut
  • sex education will no longer be compulsory 
  • huge cuts on the NHS mean that there will not be any one to deal with the growing numbers of teen STDs and pregnancies 
  • the NHS could be privatised 
  • nurses, doctors, healthcare workers will lose their jobs and possibly be unemployed for life, yes that’s right, people who spent a lot on their education will now end up in the queue at Job Centre, while on the dole
  • I hope y’all like animal abuse because fox hunting will be legalised 
  • people are condemned to 0 hour contracts 
  • the Communications Data Bill will be passed which means that they will be able to look through everyone’s internet activity. everyone’s 
  • no rent controls on newly built houses– great news, more houses! bad news, no one will be able to afford them, hooray!
  • benefits are going to be cut drastically 

so well done to every single one of you who voted Tory, you’ve ruined our country by voting for the British equivalent of Mitt Romney
